Balboa: vintage, stijlvol, pittig & swingend! En soms ook slow...

Terwijl Lindy Hoppers de balzalen bestormden in New York, ontstond er aan de Amerikaanse westkust een andere variant van het swingdansen. Balboa werd razend populair in de jaren ‘30 en ‘40 van de vorige eeuw. De balzalen waren zo stampvol dat inventief swingen op de vierkante meter het devies was. Balboa wordt gedanst in gesloten positie op swing-muziek in een stevig tempo.

Maar er is ook een langzame variant! Slow Balboa is een elegante dans voor langzame swingmuziek en heel geschikt om je dansrepertoire uit te breiden.
Wil je ook eens Slow Balboa proberen? Doe mee met de proefles van Deirdre en Joost van Swing in Rhythm tussen 20 en 21 uur . Solo of met partner, het maakt niet uit, iedereen kan meedoen en het kost niets extra.

Deze avond is er muzikal aandacht voor Slow Balboa-dansers maar vooral Balboa in up tempo die ook super is voor Shagdansers!

When Lindy Hop became all the rage in New York another swingdance, Balboa emerged on the American Westcoast. In the 1930s and 1940s Californian ballrooms became so crowded that dancers had to dance in closed position with small steps at a brisk tempo.

But there is also a slow version! Slow Balboa is an elegant dance suited for the slow swing and jazz and a great addition to your swing dance vocabulary!
Do you want to try out Slow Balboa? Join the taster class by Deirdre & Joost from Swing in Rhythm between 8 and 9 pm. Solo or with a partner, it doesn’t matter, anyone can join and it won’t cost you extra.

This night will pay musical attention to the Slow Balboa dancers, but will cater mainly for Balboa in up tempo which is also great for Shag dancers!
