Partnered workshops: registration without partner is possible, of course. But we will be confirming you based on the lead/follow balance. Want to ensure your place? Register with a partner!
There will be only place for 15 couples/30 dancers per level. So don't hesistate too long!

The Teachers

Anni Skoglund (Sweden) and Gašper Hrovat (Slovenia) are a wonderful and inspiring couple that will warm your heart. Their dance style is smooth and playful and is at its best dancing to live music when they focus on the joy between the musicians and themselves. They want to share their love for the dance as a form of communication without words, but with music, as the essence of dancing with body and soul.

From a young age both danced several styles before getting into authentic jazz dances. In 2008 it must have been love at first dance at Herräng Dance Camp and it’s how they ended up living and working in Gothenburg, Sweden. Years of performing, teaching and lecturing about balboa and lindy hop at home and abroad has seen them evolve into a couple that has won several competitions with their vibrant style and superfast feet.

Dancing plays a major role in their lives, but they do share many more passions like art (creating and consuming), reading, collecting vinyl records, travel and wholesome organic food.

Workshop & Levels

We will offer two levels that each will enjoy 5 hours of class divided over 2 days.
Since there are only two levels, the level of paricipants may vary, but the teachers will make it fun and resouceful for everybody.

Intermediate:
You dance balboa for at least 6 months to 2 years and understand most basics
(up & downhold basic, lollies, paddles, out & ins, throw out/come around).

Advanced:
You dance balboa at least for 2+ years and/or participated in several international workshops.

Beginners
We will not offer absolute beginner classes, but we will have an introduction workshop before the party on Saturday night with Ellen & Finn from Swing in Rhythm.

A 10 minute walk from Central Station (north side).
Tram 4 is under constrution and takes a different route. From Central Station: Take Tam 4 (direction Molenlaan) or Tram 25 (direction Schiebroek), stop: Schiekade, walk 5 minutes via Teilingerstraat.

We're happy to be having classes in the cosy and and colourful tango school Cuartito Azul, that just moved into this quirky building. And we all know tango dancers love a great floor. Cuartito Azul is situated in one of cool hoods of Rotterdam "Oude Noorden" (Old North) with plenty of nice places for coffees, cakes, restaurants and (vintage) shopping.

De Machinist, built in the 1940s, is a former school for marine engineers and the room we'll be dacning in used to be the canteen. It has been redesigned and a great spot for dinner, live music and movies.

15:00-19:00: Dance, dance, dance with old and new friends!
We'll have some fab DJs for you: DJ Bal Cat, DJ Gasper and DJ FinnSpinn!

Situated on 'Katendrecht', a peninsula on the Southbank of the River.
Public transport: Metro line D or E direction Slinge or De Akkers, stop: Rijnhaven. Walk from there, 15 minutes, or take Bus 77 (under metro station) direction SS Rotterdam, stop: Rechthuislaan.
Take Tram 25 from Central Station or Schiekade (workshop) direction Carnisselande. stop: Wilhelminaplein, walk 15 minutes via Otto Reuchlinweg. That's direction Hotel New York, left/backside of the hotel you cross the Rijnhavenbrug to Deliplein, turn right to Rechthuislaan.

Belvédère was built in 1894 and carries its name since 1915. This part of town, Katendrecht, or in short Rotterdams 'De Kaap' was the first Chinatown in Europa. It had a notorious reputation due to the opium joints, prostitutes and bars that were frequented by the many sailors that visited the harbour of Rotterdam. In the 1930s jazz had found its way to De Kaap. Negro palace Belvédère became a place to dance to live jazz musicians like Kid Dynamite and Teddy Cotton. During the war years and the German occupation, jazz had gone underground, but was still around.

Refund policy

We cannot refund your purchased passes for any reason. You can, however, re-sell your pass on your own behalf, just let us know by e-mail to whom you sold your pass as soon as possible so we can update our registration.
